Aluminum offers a long list of benefits only challenged by very
few materials: lightweight, strong, resilient,
corrosion-resistant, non-combustible and non-toxic, just to name a
few. Aluminum also has a relatively high thermal conductivity,
which in certain applications such as fenestration systems,
requires the use of a thermal break to create a barrier to thermal
Thermal Bar and Pour and Debridge are processes that create such a barrier. And both processes are available at Bonnell Aluminum.
Although these two systems perform similar functions, they are different in the way they perform and the way they are incorporated into fenestration products.
The Thermal Bar uses a mechanical bond process, which consists of knurling the thermal cavities of two or more extrusions, in order to insert and tightly crimp a polyamide strip to form the thermal barrier.
Pour and Debridge serves the same purpose as Thermal Bar. The process consists of pouring liquid polyurethane into an extruded cavity and milling the extrusion on the opposite side once the polyurethane has solidified to create the thermal break.
